2024 First Quarter District Contributions to GSO

May 21, 2024 By District 2

Each quarter, we receive financial reports detailing our district groups’ contributions.

No group is required to contribute to GSO. But, of course, there will be no AA without the General Services Office. Here’s the email received from the GSB Treasurer.

Dear DCM,
Warmest Greetings from the General Service Office.
Enclosed is a detailed statement of the contributions received from groups in your district for the first quarter of 2024. This
report reflects contributions by groups who are listed on G.S.O.’s database. Additionally, tributes made by groups such as
birthdays, local conferences, memorials etc. are a part of the statement.
If you have any questions regarding this statement, please contact [email protected]
or call (212) 870-3023.
Kevin Prior
G.S.B Treasurer

Several groups need to be removed from active roles. This quarter, The Goose Hung High was the only group from District 2 to contribute to GSO. The recommended contribution schedule is in the attached graph. In 2023, the only groups to contribute to GSO were The Goose Hung High ($350) and Cullman Group ($50).

How should each group determine how much to give back to AA?

First, each group should establish a prudent reserve. What’s a prudent reserve? The AA.org site defines it this way:

Most groups try to hold a certain amount of money in reserve. There is no predetermined amount for such a reserve, but most groups try to put aside enough money to cover at least one to three months’ operating expenses. The group itself usually determines the actual size and scope of the prudent reserve. For many groups, the Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of maintaining a prudent reserve.

In District 2, we don’t currently have an intergroup or central office, so the recommendation for our district is:

  • 40% to District
  • 30% to Area
  • 30% to G.S.O.

Checks in U.S. dollars payable to “General Service Board” may be mailed to:

Post Office Box 2407
James A Farley Station
New York, NY 10116-2407

Checks to the “AA Area 1 Treasurer” should be addressed to:

Area 1 AL/NW FL
2135 Interstate Dr
Box 209
Opelika, AL 36801

Checks to the “District 2 Treasurer” should be delivered to:

Nick Y.
Hartselle Hope
Hartselle, AL.

or bring it to the District Meeting held quarterly.
